2004 SENIOR FESTIVAL REPORTS
Host- Michael Smith expressed
his pleasure concerning the hosting of the festival. The Barnstable booster organization and the students have
been wonderful. There was concern
about conflicting concert information.
Michael suggested that teachers wait for the host letter and that one
person per school receives the information.
The cost of the festival will
be discussed at the June meeting.
CHORUS- Chris Roberts reports
that there have been some difficulties with students, specifically the
Tenors. He asks that teachers
screen their students more carefully for the auditions. Please let managers know about students
that may have specific issues that need to be addressed. Chris also apologized for the lateness
of the music. The program changed
on December 10 and he was waiting for music to arrive.
Chris mentioned revisiting
the sight-reading portion of the audition.
He also mentioned that the
conductor was very positive.
ORCHESTRA- Stacy Farias
reported that Walter has been fabulous.
She said that the kids are wonderful and having a good time. Students arrived prepared and the
conductor is very happy. It's
going to be fabulous!
BAND- Alex Pendleton reported
that the program is going very well.
The percussionists are very happy because the parts are interesting. All is well.
Attendance- John New named
all the students absent from the festival. Some are not allowed to audition next year.
FESTIVAL TOPICS/CONCERNS
1) Registration- The general feeling is that the process
works. Barbara Elder suggested
that the health forms be brought to the festival and not to the audition. John New said that it's not a problem
to separating them out at the festival.
Charles Bihler likes the form because it's a contract with both the
student and the parent and the health form should be part of that. Shawn Landers would like a space for
height on the form so that the chorus can sit that way and already be lined up
for the concert. Joe Studley said he would add a space for height to the form.
2) Fee's- The fees will be discussed at the June meeting.
3) Audition site- Mashpee High School will host the
auditions in 2005 and 2006.
4) Audition Selections

b.

Berg Hagopian made the motion that 1st and
3rd wind players be assigned to the orchestra. If there are not
enough wind players to go around the managers will decide. Tom Farias seconded and after some
discussion the motion passed unanimously.
Norma Kelley made a motion to remove the
box on the audition form
that
allows students to state a preference for band or orchestra. Mariellen Sears seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
c.
Senior district selections for chorus-no change
d.
Discussion of choral sight reading-Charles Bihler asked if the reason
sight-reading was adopted was to improve the quality of the performance, or to
be like Southeast District?
Allison Beavan stated that the reason she presented it was to elevate
the quality and to get teachers to sight sing more with their students.
A
motion was made by Barbara Elder to keep the sight reading as is for another
year. Charles Bihler seconded. MSP
