Audition Report
Chris Roberts reminded members that an audition’s host is needed. Mike
suggested that we email John New and as a back-up Bourne. Chris reminds us
to check our email and the website often. Joe will put up the mp3 files once
again as requested by Mariellen. The managers and teachers were commended
for the performances of the ensembles. Cape students received a special experience
at the festival this year. Tony and Jerry were particularly pleased with the
work of their ensembles.
Michael noted that he was disappointed with the Cape Cod Times coverage of
the festival. He requests pictures and future news releases of this “big
deal” for our students. Bob asked that we contact parents of participants
who might work for the paper.
Bob expressed his concern that we had 2 bass rooms and that we have difficulty
getting judges.
A jazz manager and host are needed for 2006-2007. Joe will post that opening.
The festival has usually been held the last week of March. Tom Farris will
be notified.
Tom Borning will be band manager and his assistant will be Tom Farris. The
conductor will be Laura Rexroth from UMASS.
Rose Richards will be the choral manager with Fred as her assistant. Kerry
Wynn is orchestra manager and Steve will be her assistant.
Junior Festivals:
Andrew Troyanos would like to host the Junior Jazz Festival, Mariellen Sears
the Band (Jazz back-up host), String Jamboree in Mashpee or in Nauset with
Berg, and the choral workshop in Barnstable with Janice Hannah.
Audition Forms:
The idea to remove the “below average” terminology in the future
was discussed. Examples of other audition forms i.e.; SE should be examined.
Managers are concerned because of the close scores. Chris will mail audition
packets for us to study and examine. John said that maybe some students aren't
prepared to audition when they arrive on audition day.
Lisa expressed appreciation to Rose for setting up the All State Bus and is
interested in repeating that service. msp
Discussion took place regarding chaperones, their responsibility and legality
of our procedures.
Invitational Band and Orchestra Festival:
Michael will host the festival in Barnstable. Information to follow.
Lisa brought forward an idea of Tony’s to present conductors with a
plaque. Msp
Mike expressed concern regarding late auditions for some students. Chris encourages
us to register students early so that managers know how many judges to hire.
Chris brought forward the idea of a scholarship being presented in the future
which would include the following characteristics: leadership, include audition,
include application, talents, 3 year festival participation, etc.
Meeting:
The next meeting will be held September 6th.
Bob motioned that we adjourn. Msp 8:13 P.M.
Restfully submitted: LaVada Studley
