Meeting Called to order at 7:05 p.m. Dennis Yarmouth HS Choir Room.

 

Secretary's Report: Allison Beavan (in absentia) There was discussion over the inaccuracy of the figures submitted by the treasurer at the June meeting regarding the All-Cape and Islands Jazz Festival.  Marcia Wytrwal was not present to clarify the listing. The matter was tabled after some discussion. Accepted by body after brief discussion.

 

Treasurer's Report: Marcia Wytrwal (in absentia) Accepted with some discussion and questions. Marcia was not present. Issues tabled to discuss with the treasurer at a later date.

 

Festival Auditions: John New

1.  There was some discussion as to the policy of paying for transportation for conductors.

a.     Is there a maximum cost to incur for the All-Cape Festival?

b.     b. Historically, has this been paid for?

2.  A question was raised as to the total number of students that may audition for an ensemble.

a.  A maximum of 20 treble voices has been the policy in place for the vocal auditions.

c.     There are no maximums for instrumental ensembles.

3.  A concerted effort will be made by the managers to include the rules, guidelines and regulations for the festival.  These are to be mailed with the audition results.

4.  Jazz Fees were again discussed and tabled.

5.  A motion was made by Tony Stevens (Barnstable HS) to raise All-Cape Festival Fees to $20.00 per student. (Norma Kelly - second). Approved by the body.

6.  Joe Studley updated the body on the procedures on Internet registration for the upcoming festival. (Note change  in web-site address:  http://www.allcapemusic.org/

7.  There was discussion on the possibility of allowing band students to audition on the Junior District piece or the Senior District piece as the auditions so closely scheduled.  Presently, the flutes are the only band students that may audition on the Senior District piece.

a.  There was no motion made. The issue was tabled after some discussion.

8.     An attempt was made to follow up on the status of the sightsinging requirement for the upcoming festival. The committee chair was not present. The matter was tabled. The choral manager (Allison Beavan) should follow up and ascertain the status this requirement for the November audition.

9.     John New and Kerry Wynn asked the body for volunteers and suggestions for adjudicating of students for the November audition.

 

Senior All-Cape Festival Manager's Reports:

 

Choral: Allison Beavan, manager (in absentia)

A director has been secured: Dr. Pam Perry, Central Connecticut State University. The suggested program is available to interested members. Allison will email the titles if so requested.

 

Orchestra: Kerry Wynn, manager A director has been secured: Ray Panacarowicz,  Govemor's School for the Arts, Old Dominion University. She presented the suggested program to the body.

 

Band: John New, manager A director has been secured: Dr. Cody Birdwell, Texas Tech University. He suggested two pieces to the body (Alamo March, Variations on a Danish Folk Song).

 

      There was a question regarding the policy of auditioning harp students for the upcoming festival. Berj Hagopian is responsible for contacting a local harp teacher for proficiency requirement regarding this instrument. Kerry Wynn will contact the orchestra conductor to see if there are any harp parts in the repertoire he has selected. She will contact Berj Hagopian with the response.

 

Jazz: Ned Rosenblatt, manager A director has been secured: John Mastrianni (Connecticut). The dates of the festival will be April 3-4. The festival will be hosted by Barnstable HS.  Auditions will be held on January 8" at Barnstable High School.

 

Old Business:

 

By-Laws Revision: Fred Johnson, chair (in absentia)

1.  There was no report made on the revision of by-laws. A motion was made regarding this issue. Only those items submitted to the chair of this committee will be considered for change (made by Bob Frazier, ret. ; 2"d by Mariellen Sears). The motion was passed.

2. A request was made to include the respective ensemble managers on the All Cape website. Joe Studley would try to do so.

3. Bob Frazier has information on the New England Music Festival. He may be contacted if anyone desires additional information.

 

New Business:

 

1.  There was discussion regarding the preparedness of all students attending the All-Cape Festival. Choral students were particularly ill prepared. This was attributed to the delay in receiving the music. The body discussed options in helping students to prepare their music. Ned Rosenblatt raised the idea of rehearsal tapes for the choral directors.

2.  A reminder was made that the dress code for the All-Cape Festival rehearsals and performance is dictated by the host school (Barnstable HS). Specifics include:

a.  Women:  (performance) skirts below the knee (with no side slits), no bare midriffs, white blouses with long sleeves, black hose, black shoes (not sneakers), no spaghetti straps or tube tops.

b. Men: (rehearsals) No hats or bandanas, no offensive T-shirts.

3. Marillen Sears update the body on the Cape Cod Symphony Scholarship.

a.  The dates have been changed to earlier in the year (December).

b. 3 scholarships will be awarded: (2) $1000.00, (1) 800.00.

c. Music students between the ages of 14 and 18 are eligible.

d. All the participating students will be adjudicated by a panel of 5 judges.

4. The All-Cape music library is housed at Falmouth High School. Music may be borrowed for you own school's use. Managers should also keep this library in mind when choosing selections for future festivals. An effort will be made to create a database of music already purchased and available to directors.

 

The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
