Festival Auditions
2004:
1. a. Registration went well in 2002 and will remain the same.
b. Posting results will not be done so
early in 2004. Directors should not
inform students based on
information posted online.
Students should know only when they receive their score sheets in the
mail. This was a problem this year
due to corrections having to be made by the managers.
2. Fees: Festival fees should be raised if conductor's fees are
raised. Chris Roberts reminded
that budgets are set for next year already and changes in fees should only
occur in September.
3. Site: DY will remain the audition host to complete the expected
two year host cycle.
Date: November 19, 2003,
Wednesday (South East: November
22,l2003)
4. Audition selections: Remain as is. Reminder that studentswho audition on Jr. District piece
receive one point less. Also,
check the web site for any South East District changes. The June issue of MMEA usually has the
pieces listed.
5. Instrumentation: The CCMEA policy is not to share performers with other ensembles in the
festival. It is suggested that
programs be set before the auditions and
scores be brought to the audition so the adjudicators can make
appropriate selection of students.
6. Sightsinging: After much discussion it was decided that:
1. the sightsinging selection would be up
to the manager
2. the selection would start on the tonic
(do)
3. the judging would be limited to pitch
and rhythm - no tone quality
4. sightsinging would be weighted as
orchestra and band weight theirs
5. intervals would be no larger than a
major third
6. selections would be in appropriate
range of all voices in the key of C
7. the selection would be written in the
style of the audition piece
M/S/P (as Guidelines only)
7. Judges:
a. fees will remain the same: $20
b. managers will try to line up judges
today

made. John New suggested 30
minutes be set aside at June meeting for members to submit suggestions to
Fred. Also, members may email Fred
with suggestions ahead of the meeting.Reminder: By-laws are on online for member review.
Festival Rules
Revisited:
No sharing of instruments among ensembles.
No student driving
is permitted to or from auditions and festivals. Discussion ensued regarding liability and MA Secondary
School Principals' Association rules which govern our body. Parents must drive students that are not provided
transportation by their schools.
This ruling is for safety, logistics of parking space available and
liability. Vickie Vieira gave
examples of schools sharing busing and felt that other schools could help
accomodate students who might otherwise need to find their own transportation.
Ned Rosenblatt suggested this ruling become part of the signed commitment form.
This ruling will be enforced by individual directors on the honor system.
Students who leave
or do not participate in rehearsals, etc. will not be allowed to audition the
following year unless the reason for absence is illness. Names should be given the next year's
managers and again this is on the honor system with each director policing
their own students. John New reminds directors that the health of this
organization depends on this honor system.
New Business:
Secretary and Treasurer positions are up for new
elections. This will be done at
the June meeting.
John New
congratulated all teachers for the incredible job they are doing expecially in
light of all that is going on regarding budgets, etc.
